The Dragon Fruit, native to Central America, has traveled globally to become a favorite tropical fruit worldwide. Once per year, this cactus species adorns an incredible feather-like flower for just one night. After blooming, the flower wilts away and the fruit starts to grow from the base of the flower. After a few weeks, the fruit grows large and red and resembles a large scaley egg, giving it its namesake, dragon fruit. Shane Armour created this life-cycle illustration during Hawaii's Dragon fruit season in late summer and autumn to illustrate the different stages of the fruiting cycle.
